About

EPCA was founded by Clayton Franklin, a Wunumara man from Cloncurry, Queensland, with a vision to make mining cleaner and more sustainable. Rooted in a deep connection to the country, Clayton and the EPCA team are working to reduce the industry’s reliance on diesel by converting heavy mining trucks to battery-electric.

The retrofit process involves replacing the diesel engine with an electric powertrain while reusing as much of the existing truck as possible. By preserving 80% of the components, EPCA extends the lifespan of mining equipment, reducing waste and avoiding the need for early disposal of otherwise serviceable machinery. This approach reduces emissions and shows that electric haulage can be practical, cost-effective, and reliable in real mining conditions.

After successfully retrofitting a CAT777D to full battery-electric operation in seven months, EPCA has proven to mining companies that its electric truck can operate for 10 hours on a single charge, with a fast recharge time of 50 minutes.

By collaborating with mining operators, Indigenous businesses, and technology providers, EPCA is creating real change, one truck at a time. This work aligns with the broader push for sustainability in mining and ensures that First Nations-led innovation plays a key role in shaping the industry’s future.
