About
JR Hammer's founding goal was to redefine how the electrical industry handles end-oflife cables. Our experience in scrap metal trading showed the harsh reality: most cables ended up in overseas yards with poor working conditions. Workers manually stripped copper using unsafe recycling methods resulting in burning, illegal dumping and landfill waste.
We set out to change this. Through our RecyCable program, we partner with electrical wholesalers, such Lecky’s and Middy’s, to implement a reverse cable recycling logistics system. Electricians can return used cables to participating branches where they are weighed on trade-certified scales, receiving store credit for the weighted copper. We safely recover the materials through transparent recycling outcomes for up to 90% of the insulation material, issuing a green certificate to the wholesalers.
Working with CSIRO and RMIT through a CRCP grant, we're advancing PVC circularity to recover near virgin PVC resin that can be reintroduced into the circular supply chain.
This program not only tackles sustainability challenges but also addresses illegal "cash for scrap" practices prevalent in the industry.
