About

Yurika is proud to partner with Stanwell Corporation to deliver the Tarong Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), one of Queensland’s largest renewable energy projects. This initiative represents a key milestone in shifting Queensland’s energy system towards a sustainable future.

Located 135km northwest of Brisbane, near Stanwell’s Tarong power stations, the BESS will provide 300MW of energy storage with a two-hour duration. Charged by renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, it will balance supply and demand by storing energy during high generation periods and discharging during demand peaks, improving overall grid stability.  The system charges and discharges electricity several times a day, responding within fractions of a second to electricity demand.

As Principal Contractor, Yurika has delivered the electrical balance of plant for this landmark project. Our scope includes integrating 164 Tesla Megapack 2XL batteries, 84 MV transformers, a 275kV/33kV substation, and advanced SCADA and communications systems. Thanks to early design and planning, the project is on track for completion in early 2025.

We commend Stanwell’s vision in driving this transformative project, which strengthens grid reliability, provides firming capacity, and supports Queensland’s energy transition. Together, we’re building a reliable, sustainable energy future for Queenslanders.
